Old projects: A quillow from 2011.

So to start with I thought I would share some old projects.

This one is from way back in October 2011 I started a new job and moved in with a family as a lodger in the suburbs of London. when I moved in I met their daughter in law who was clearly very pregnant. turns out she was due in late November. Hence a quick project to do before their baby girl arrived. This is a quillow. They were a very stylish family and I knew i wanted to make something different and unusual.

If you have never heard of a quillow and think it is just a cushion you are wrong. A quillow is a quilt in a pillow and is super useful and versatile I had one my grandmother quilted for me as a child and I loved it. I made the design edge with pink and white baby wool crochet in to four granny squares. I was careful about my ends and sewing on this project as it was for a baby. then I bought some inexpensive pink fleece three times the total width and length of the granny squares sewn together. Also a piece was made the size of the granny squares which the granny squares were sewn onto.

You create a pocket with the design facing down( inward) on the bottom middle of the blanket and opening into the middle ( this is also makes a foot pocket for when it is a blanket.) and you sew so the top edge is open then fold the blanket into the quillow two sides in then over and over again and flip it through to the pocket. Because mine was quite big and flat I added ribbons so you could fold it in half. It was neat project and the family loved it.
